Ruth Croft –
From New Zealand to Australia onto the USA and later into Europe few Kiwi athletes have achieved more internationally in 2021 than trail running extraordinaire Ruth Croft. With a record-breaking win in the Tarawera Ultramarathon before earning a brilliant second place on her 100-mile debut at Western States, we’re excited to speak with this West Coast local on her year ahead.
Richard Jackson – Team CP Athlete
Event cancellations have meant that finishers’ medals have proved elusive over the last couple of years but this hasn’t stopped Richard from putting his training to the test. Completing the Queen Charlotte and the Heaphy track as there and back missions, completely self supported. We’ll hear about his training and inspiration for these long-distance adventures.
Cushla Holdaway – Dietitian
Cushla will wrap up the show this evening with some insights into fuelling for ultra-running and what it takes to succeed over the longer distance.

Bobby Dean – We didn’t see this year’s 5th seed on the start line in 2021, as he sat out the year due to injury. However we saw Bobby Dean back on the start line for 2022 and his 6th KMDC2C. Bobby was one of the youngest within the Top 10 field and made his presence known coming in 3rd behind Dougal Allan and race winner, Braden Currie.
Vicky Jones – Vicky Jones the final person to get to the finish line in New Brighton on Saturday by beating all of the cut offs and in doing so completing an epic Longest Day Kathmandu Coast to Coast. She had a point to prove after breaking her boat in the paddle a couple of years ago which made getting to the finish line even sweeter this time.
Ethan Halliwell – Completed this years Mountain Run in 3:34:42, just under 20 mins ahead of Ben O’Carroll. Ethan breaks down his race for us.
Elina Usher – Lining up for her 17th Coast to Coast, Elina is no stranger to the Coast to Coast experience – with 4 Womens Longest Day titles and now 6th time placing 2nd. It was a tight race out front within the Elite women within only minutes separating race winner, Simone Maier, Elina and 3rd place Fiona Dowling.
Braden Currie – Braden is this year’s Coast to Coast Longest day champion and adding a 4th C2C title to his name. After COVID spoiled the plans for the now cancelled IRONMAN NZ, Braden was spurred on by Coast to Coast owner Mike Davies to hit the Kathmandu coast to coast starting lineup. So with a mere 36hrs of prep time, Braden dusted off his kayak and his multisport roots and headed for Greymouth! Braden began his professional racing career within C2C, racing 5 consecutive C2C’s, with his last being in 2016, when he placed second to Sam Clarke, hanging up his kayak to enter the world of Ironman. Hitting the finishing chute with a 20 minute lead on defending Champion, Dougal Allan on Saturday, it was an epic race to watch.

Hamish Elliot – Since 1987 the One Day event has only been an option for individual athletes, however 2022 saw the option to enter 3 person teams. One team member to tackle the Cycle stages (plus the first run off the start line at Kumara), another the Mountain Run and the third taking on the 70km kayak down the Waimak.
Hamish Elliot joins us tonight as ⅓ of Team OSM – taking on the Mountain Run, and not for the first time. He is joined by Louis Crosby (biking) and Rachel Clarke, taking on the kayak for OSM.
Dougal Allan – Our next guest wears the #1 Elite Men’s Bib this coming Saturday. Dougal Allan Dougal has become one of NZ’s most successful and consistent endurance athletes. Dougal is Coast to Coast World Multisport Champion two times over – taking the top podium step in 2019 and 2021.
Renee Wootton – Elite Women’s 6th seed, Renee Wootton’s pedigree speaks for itself when it comes to the cycling side of the Kathmandu Coast to Coast, having ridden for pro team Velo Project, competing in the New Zealand Cycling series. And given cycling makes up over half of the race, the Queenstown Engineer is at a real advantage. It’s whether she can put it together on the 30.5 km Mountain Run that will be her biggest challenge, especially after returning from a broken ankle, which kept her out of the 2021 event.
